On Monday September 19, 2016, U.S. Secretary of Energy Ernest Moniz will travel to New York for two events focusing on the Department of Energy’s role in combatting climate change under the Paris climate agreement and discussing the implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), commonly referred to as the Iran Deal, to help ensure U.S. and global nuclear security and nonproliferation.

Secretary Moniz will participate in a fireside discussion with Rachel Kyte, CEO and Special Representative for the UN Secretary General for Sustainable Energy for All, at Climate Week NYC’s Opening Ceremony. During his remarks, the Secretary will focus on the steps the administration and the U.S. Department of Energy are taking to meet U.S. commitments to the climate agreement made last year in Paris at COP21.

Secretary Moniz will then participate in a fireside discussion with Dr. Graham Allison at the Council on Foreign Relations, where he will discuss implementation of the JCPOA and the U.S. Department of Energy’s role in negotiating and enforcing the nuclear agreement with Iran. Dr. Allison is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and Director of the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs at Harvard Kennedy School.
